Lamborghini is set for an electrifying second half of the decade.

Announcing its roadmap to electrification earlier in 2021, Lamborghini said it would introduce four new models leading up to its first all-electric model by the second half of this decade.

A report by Automotive News suggests that the new all-electric model will be a grand tourer with a 2+2 seating arrangement.

In the shadowy teaser image showcasing the four new Lamborghini vehicles, the fourth model appears to have a sleek coupe-style body.

This modern 2+2 GT idea has been floating around for a number of years now since ex-Lamborghini CEO, Stefano Domenicali, laid out his five-step plan in 2019.

It’s not the first time that we’ve seen a Lamborghini like this.

The Espada was a four-seat grand touring coupe produced from 1968 to 1978. It used a 3.9-litre V12 engine and was offered with a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission.

The 2+2 EV is reportedly going to be developed in collaboration with Audi and Porsche.

It will most likely be built on the all-electric Scalable System Platform (SSP) expected to be introduced in 2026, which will be rolled out across other Volkswagen Group brands.

It’ll be the successor of not only today’s MEB and PPE all-electric architectures, but also the MQB, MSB and MLB architectures currently used for internal-combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

In the recent past, Lamborghini revealed GT concepts such as the Estoque sedan concept in 2008, and the Asterion concept in 2014.

Both of these concepts used internal-combustion engines and never made it to production.

The company commenced its electrification efforts with the debut of the low-volume Sián, which uses the company’s 6.5-litre V12 and a 25kW electric motor. This model was limited to 63 coupes and 19 roadsters.
