The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL roadster has been leaked once again.

After a stream of spy photos and leaks, the highly anticipated eighth-generation SL roadster was snapped at a Mercedes-AMG internal presentation and shared by by Instagram leaker Cochespias.

Askew and a little grainy, the image shows the new-generation SL roadster in bold red paint. It also gives us a glimpse at one of the large frontal air intakes.

The image doesn’t show the signature AMG Panamericana grille with vertical fins seen in previously leaked images.

Mercedes states the torsional stiffness of the bodyshell structure has increased by 18 per cent compared to the previous SL.

Transverse rigidity is up 50 per cent from the current AMG GT Roadster, as well as a 40 per cent increase in longitudinal rigidity from the Roadster.

The SL roadster and next-generation AMG GT are expected to share components such as their suspension, steering systems, hybrid drivetrains and 48V electric architecture.

The interior of the SL roadster has already been officially revealed with a portrait-oriented 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that tilts, similar to the new-generation S-Class albeit with AMG-specific performance menus.

Ahead of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that’s been integrated into the dash, instead of being a free-standing unit, to help prevent reflections caused by sunlight. You’ll be able to toggle between multiple different layouts.

It also has a 2+2 seating layout, with the rear seats only suitable for people up to 1.5m tall.

This next-generation SL roadster will ditch the metal hardtop and come with a folding canvas roof for the first time since 2001.
