Volkswagen is recalling 40 examples of its Touareg SUV due to faulty pre-compressed springs inside the power tailgate mechanism.
All of the affected models were sold in 2019, the first year the current-generation Touareg was offered in Australia.
“If the tailgate is opened and manually pushed up too far the pre-compressed coil springs may become detached from the boot strut and detach with great force from the mounting,” the company says in its recall notice.
“A flying coil springs can lead to significant injuries to vehicle occupants and bystanders.”
