Haval H6 GT crossover hits Australia ahead of Q2 launch

Haval‘s ‘coupe’ crossover based on the H6 mid-sized SUV has been spotted in Melbourne at what appears to be a local television commercial shoot.

It was spied with H6 GT plates on the front and rear, though it’s called H6S elsewhere.

A GWM Haval Australia spokesperson subsequently confirmed the coupe-SUV will indeed be named H6 GT here, and available from the second quarter of 2022.

The spied H6 GT model is confirmed to be in Australia for marketing purposes.

The Chinese-spec Haval H6S was revealed in August 2021 and detailed in September 2021.

Pointing out the obvious, this Haval H6 GT has a tapered roofline synonymous with coupe SUVs like the Renault Arkana and BMW X4, among countless others.

At the front there is a different front fascia with a wider, trapezoidal grille and an air intake at the bottom of the bonnet.

Along the side are a set of black alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin tyres. Stopping power is provided by Brembo brakes.

At the back, there isn’t rear light bar like the H6 wagon but rather there are dual rear spoilers and twin exhaust outlets.

If you look closely at the spy photographs, you can see there’s a fuel consumption sticker on the windscreen, although the exact figures cannot be seen.

GWM Haval Australia has confirmed the H6 GT will come from the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 150kW of power and 320Nm of torque. This is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The coupe SUV rides on an identical 2738mm wheelbase as the H6 wagon, though it’s 4727mm long and 1940mm wide; the regular H6 wagon is 4653mm long and 1886mm wide.

Something that’s not seen in these local H6 GT spy images is its interior.

But GWM Haval Australia has confirmed the H6 GT has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also has sports seats and unique accented interior trim pieces.

The H6 GT will also have standard safety equipment such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, lane-keeping assist and lane departure warning.

In China there are two powertrain options offered, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a two-speed electric motor and a small 1.8kWh battery pack that stores captured braking energy.

Total system outputs for the hybrid powertrain are rated at a meaty 179kW of power and 530Nm of torque.

This hybrid powertrain is also available in the H6 Hybrid wagon, and is set to arrive Down Under in this conventional body style to tackle the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid before the mid-way point of the year.

This H6 GT isn’t Haval’s first coupe SUV – the brand offers a model called the F7X in China.

The previous-generation H6 we saw in Australia was technically two generations old, and was marketed as the H6 Coupe in China.
