Audi Q5 recalled

Audi is recalling more than 18,000 examples of its popular Q5 as the operation of the engine, transmission and steering may be affected by moisture.

“A failure of the central electronic control data network management unit will increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders,” said the company in its recall notice.

“Due to its installation position, if there is liquid or liquid droplets spilt on the rear seat bench the control unit for network management may become damaged and fail.

“A failure of the electronic control unit may have various effects on the vehicle functions. Restricted functions are indicated by warning messages in the instrument cluster.”

This could cause the following issues:

  • The engine may enter emergency running mode, and run with reduced performance
  • The automatic transmission may interrupt the power flow in the drivetrain
  • The steering may lose assistance in stages
  • A total of 18,186 vehicles are affected from 2016 to 2021
  • The VIN list is attached here
  • The original recall notice is attached here

If you have an affected Q5, you’ll need to organise a free inspection and repair at an Audi dealership.
